In the All-Star Game, New York Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge had with him a baseball bat with his daughter’s name on it and a Christian Bible Verse. The incident was so amazing that a major news outlet felt compelled to publish an article about it. Christianity has gone from a foundational norm in the eighteenth century to an oddity that must be reported on should it surprisingly arise in settings outside the four walls of a church.
The whole thing reveals itself as a true marker regarding where we are in our Faith as a country, and why as a country we are experiencing a moral crisis with the tendrils of Woke Politics seething through the nooks and crannies of our once proud Christian culture.
Judge’s bat featured a reference to a passage from the Bible — 2 Corinthians 5:7.
The verse read, “For we live by faith, not by sight.”
Judge puts Christianity and faith before baseball in his social media bios. In 2022, he spoke about 2 Corinthians 5:7 being his favorite verse from the Bible.
“It’s one of my favorite Bible verses,” he said, via the Daily Citizen. “[I] try to live my life by it, and always trust the Man above and what He’s got in store for us. We never know what’s around the corner, but if we have faith in Him, He will lead us in the right direction.”
As a Christian and historian who has studied the positive impact Christianity has on nations, and in particularly the success of Western Culture, I applaud Aaron Judge for his courage while at the same time weep for the fact that portraying one’s faith today as he did is seen as a courageous act due to the hostility that has risen against Christianity and basic godly morals.
That all said, I saw that numbers recently among younger Americans show that the appeal of seeking out Christianity is on the rise, and the government attacks against Christianity via the IRS are retracting thanks to Trump era policies.
As Benjamin Franklin so wisely commented, “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.”
John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
The progressive-left’s animosity against both the Constitution as originally intended and Christianity, I think, confirms what the Founding Fathers had to say on the matter. Another verse comes to mind as a result:
King James Bible: 2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
