Abolitionist Movement

A movement to end slavery, whether formal or informal.  The abolition of slavery gained early success in Western Europe.  Anti-slavery sentiments were widespread by the late 18th century.  Various colonies and emerging nations used slave labor largely for financial reasons, using the inexpensive workforce to keep up with agricultural demands.
