President of the Second Bank of the United States. Born: January 8, 1786, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Died February 27, 1844, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prepared Lewis and Clark’s report regarding their western exploratory expedition up the Missouri River through the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase for publication. Served on the Pennsylvania state legislature (1810–1811).
