Member, House of Representatives from Michigan, 1949-1973. World War II Veteran, U.S. Naval Reserve, Lieutenant Commander. Ford’s presidency lasted 895 days, the shortest in U.S. History by a president who did not die in office. He is the only President of the United States not to have been elected (he had been appointed to Vice President before he became President, rather than elected as a part of a ticket, or as a runner-up in the presidential election).
