Born: January 4, 1746; Byberry, Pennsylvania. Death: April 19, 1813; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Education: Princeton University, University of Edinburgh. Rush was the founder of Dickinson College. He was a physician, writer, and educator. He was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. He served as Surgeon General of the Continental Army. He was a leader in Pennsylvania’s ratification of the Constitution in 1788. Thomas Paine consulted Dr. Rush while writing his pamphlet, “Common Sense.” Consulted Lewis and Clark before they embarked on their exploratory journey to the frontier.
