Tuesday night, August 7, 2018, Murrieta finally joined other cities in California with a resolution to opt out of S.B. 54 (California’s Sanctuary State Law).  Shortly after the end of the city council meeting, Mayor Jonathan Ingram and I discussed what had happened. He explained he had convinced Rick Gibbs to join him on the issue, and Alan Long followed Gibbs to the conservative side of the issue, as well.  Kelly Seyarto not so much.  Randon Lane refused to vote, recusing himself (from the CCA issue, not the sb54 issue).  Originally I was told that he hid from the issue, it turned out that he and Jonathan Ingram were the two main proponents for opting out of SB 54.

Once again, Ingram proved he was the conservative of the group, Seyarto proved he was the liberal, and Lane proved he was the coward (or at least that is my usual take regarding his decision making).

I tried to reach local republican advocate Bob Kowell for comment after the meeting, but was unable to reach him.  I am sure we’ll talk on Wednesday.

I was also informed that the CCA issue also died on Tuesday Night, which means Murrieta will not join the regionalism scheme of government control over our electricity.

I am proud of Murrieta.

Now, if we can only stop the idea of an increase in the local sales tax.
