Greetings from the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C. Today, Independence Day, July 4, 2023, I had the blessed opportunity to participate in a ceremony with a bunch of fantastic people for a reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Jefferson Memorial. I am humbled, for as one of the readers, I was joined by an array of real-life American Heroes. With me at the reading was my dear friend and KMET co-host, Alan Myers (whose idea a decade ago became reality with this event), a Chaplain in the United States Army, two medical professionals, an FDNY hero who was one of the firefighters at the collapse of the twin towers in New York City on 9/11 in 2001, a National Park law enforcement officer, and a young Asian college student. I was the final reader, providing the “Grand Finale.” We also had present with us actors portraying Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Frederick Douglass, and Abraham Lincoln. Video will be forthcoming (yes, I recorded the whole thing!). The first picture you see above is one of me standing in front of the statue of Thomas Jefferson at his memorial, with full view of the picture below. I was supposed to also be at Independence Hall in Philadelphia today, but my visit will instead be tomorrow morning. Then, I will head west, first to Arkansas, and then back home. All of this week’s classes are not going to meet, and will resume next week. The final touches of the renovation to my website are in play, and in addition to my time outside in a meeting in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the event at the Jefferson Memorial, I have also been working with my programmer when I can get some computer-time, to get the site up and running. It is finished, but not publicly available just yet. You should see it any day now. I will send out an email once it is ready to roll. That all said, one of the features I am really excited about. The new website is supposed to be designed to be educational, and interactive. One of those features is a glossary of terms I have created, and these terms will be connected to every piece of text on the site. If a word is in my glossary, it will be underlined, and holding your mouse over it will reveal a box with the definition. More to come… |
