I was just a kid during the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. While I didn’t grasp the full historical significance then, I remember the vivid experience of gathering at my aunt and uncle’s place in Orange County with my dad’s side of the family. The street erupted with sparklers, pinwheels, and firecrackers – so many fireworks of so many different kinds that no organized show was necessary. In the distance, we heard the thunder of professional displays lighting up the sky. What struck me most was how, in a family that rarely agreed on politics, everyone looked upward and cheered together as one.

Fifty years later, we’ve reached America’s 250th anniversary. President Donald J. Trump is determined to make this the greatest celebration in world history. As a constitutionalist and historian, I find it exhilarating to see America command the global spotlight. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a remarkable period for our Union of States.

We’re hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with international visitors discovering firsthand the wonders of America. The 2028 Summer Olympics will showcase Los Angeles to the world (and yes, it will be properly cleaned up in time, I think). NASA has already conducted a moon flyby, with a landing forthcoming. Leading it all is America’s greatest cheerleader, President Donald J. Trump.

Two hundred fifty years of American Independence. Two hundred fifty years of a grand experiment in Liberty – including the revolutionary idea that we possess God-Given Rights. Two hundred fifty years of a Free Market Economy and Property Rights.  Two hundred fifty years of limited federal government thanks to our written Constitution, and the sovereignty of autonomous States operating on localism and bottom-up governance.

This milestone offers America a chance to celebrate our past and face the future with patriotic optimism.

America 250 transcends a mere state fair and fireworks display.  It’s an opportunity to reflect on our history, celebrate our progress, and stand in stark contrast to the communist anti-American vision of the new Democratic Party.

Despite leftist complaints, it’s becoming the most spectacular celebration of liberty and patriotism ever conceived. President Trump is ensuring this pride in American history and liberty is not just proclaimed from mountaintops but propels us toward future greatness.

Those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome have allowed their hatred to eclipse any love for country. They reject patriotic showcases of America’s vast and successful history. The Great American State Fair runs June 25 to July 10, with Trump kicking off with patriotic music and military flybys on June 24. This free public celebration features state and territory pavilions, live performances, cultural exhibits, family attractions, and a 110-foot Ferris Wheel. Yet many artists walked away despite initially committing to participate. The event celebrates America, not President Trump – but because he’s our President and it was his initiative, they want no part of it.

These are the same people who claim their political opponents are the divisive ones.

But the show must go on.

I watched Wednesday night’s kickoff on television, with the president speaking shortly after 5:30 PM my time in an event I wish I could have attended on the National Mall. The monumental, historic, spectacular scenes unfolded before me.

Thousands attended, with tight security from multiple federal agencies – necessary because leftist domestic terrorists have already succeeded with assassinations, have attempted assassinations and have plotted mass casualty events, as evidenced by the foiled attack on the UFC Event at the White House.

Opera star Christopher Macchio delivered stirring patriotic renditions, followed by Lee Greenwood’s iconic “God Bless the U.S.A.” As the song played, I looked at my wife – the love of my life – and she was in tears. She loves this country, and the song carries profound patriotic meaning for her, especially since it played when she naturalized twenty years ago.

Administration officials spoke after F-16 Vipers and a B-2 Stealth Bomber roared overhead.

This fair represents the first national exposition of its kind, inspired by the World’s Fairs. Exhibitors will showcase American leadership in aerospace, artificial intelligence, energy, innovation, manufacturing, robotics, space exploration, and transportation.

Many states, organizations, and companies will be participating – with all of it having free admission (if you can get there, and registered in time).

President Trump calls it the “Rally to end all Rallies.” When asked about artists who reneged, he emphasized the celebration relies on supporters, speakers, and traditional patriotic music – not celebrity entertainers.

Each State received about 600 square feet for exhibits. Officials from Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, and North Carolina sent no delegations, so private partners represent those states. All six territories will have booths. Every part of the United States of America will be celebrated.

Celebration 250 includes special events: July 1 at the Teddy Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota, July 3 at Mount Rushmore, July 4 featuring an International Naval Review and Sail in New York Harbor with grand fireworks on the National Mall, and August 9’s Patriot Games – a national competition for outstanding high school athletes (ages 14-17) from each state, territory, and tribal nations, with $250,000 in scholarship prizes. Six Freedom 250 Mobile Museums will travel nationwide, bringing America’s independence story to all communities.  And mixed into all of it is an American Heroes Student Art Contest.

There’s only one word for this: HISTORIC.

We are witnessing history unfold. America is great, and so are our celebrations when masterminded by someone like President Trump. Glorious. Patriotic. Great.

Yet the socialist Borg of the Democratic Party continues to hurt people, cling to remaining power, and plot to destroy everything America builds.  They persecute patriots and seek to fundamentally transform America into an ugly socialist version the Founders never intended. Ugliness defines socialism/communism – gray, shapeless, and designed to fill us with despair. That’s why they hate the White House Ballroom Trump is building. That’s why they rooted for the algae in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. That’s why they topple statues and demand ugliness across our land.

Trump understands the culture war. He recognizes the communism Democrats have always flirted with, now feigning surprise as it consumes their party.  New York’s Democratic primaries being swept by Democratic-Socialists clearly demonstrates this reality.

This is good versus evil.  America versus anti-Americanism.  Patriotism against Deconstructionism. As long as MAGA remains a force, good will triumph.  Let’s celebrate America and all that is good about our nation.

Happy 250.
